Japanese Green Tea 101 in Berlin

Tea tends to play a special part in my life. I drink it daily and it basically helped me cure my dependence on coffee to fully function. While I haven’t encountered a tea I couldn’t drink, I’d have to admit that my favourite has to be green tea – preferably sencha. Recently, I was lucky enough to be invited to a green tea tasting event here in Berlin. Naturally, I couldn’t say no.

My friend Yuka also helped organise the said event which gave a platform to three Japanese organic tea farmers. This, so that they can bring their premium tea to Germany. These three farms – Shizuoka’s Suruga Tengu, Ishikawa Seicha from Aichi, and Kyoto’s Azuma Tea Farm – produce some of the highest quality tea in Japan. They’re so good, not everyone can get their hands on them and they’re even pretty hard to get within their country.

Travel Meets History: Jewish Prague

Jewish history has always held a special place in my heart. Living in Berlin and travelling to neighbouring European countries, there’s always something connected to it. The way the Jewish people struggled, thrived, then had to fight for survival in this continent is a part of history that we can all learn from. Prague, a city just four hours from Berlin was, at some point, home to one of the largest Jewish communities in Europe. Since we moved to Berlin last year, I’ve already been to Prague thrice and Jewish Prague is one of my favourite aspects of the city.

Relax in the City: SpaSphere (Berlin)

I’m a city girl through and through. People who know me personally can attest to that. I just love the hustle and bustle – the excitement and energy a big city generates. However, I won’t deny that it can get pretty taxing sometimes. The excitement and physical strain of daily living can actually wear you down. Living in Berlin for over a year now, I find that even though this city is not as busy as Manila or Kuala Lumpur, the constant moving around that I do (even in awful weather) can still be exhausting. What really saves the day for me, though, is a spot of relaxation within my week – either at home or at a spa. Germany is big on spa culture and I’ve written about it before. This time, I’ll be telling you about another spa that I recently visited that has left a really good impression with me: SpaSphere.

A Tour of Vienna House Andel’s for Berlin Business Travellers

I first found myself in Vienna House Andel’s during a Diplommatischer Stammtisch event – a monthly gathering for diplomats and their spouses here in Berlin to help us network and make friends. During the first visit, I noticed that the hotel has so much to offer – especially for those travelling to Berlin for business.

The hotel doesn’t need to make much effort to impress. I say this as someone who comes from Asia where hotels tend to be ginormous and grand. From its sheer size, the modern lobby where there’s an Italian APE converted into a coffee bar, the number of rooms, the quality of the restaurants and the views. If you’re planning on holding a business conference or a trade fair, you can even do it all under one roof.

Photo Diary: Berlin Pride / CSD Parade 2018

“My Body, My Identity, My Life” was this year’s theme for Berlin Pride also known as the Cristopher Street Day Parade. It’s an event that I look forward to every summer. Supporting and showing love for the LGBTQ community is one of the causes I truly believe in.

Despite the unforgiving heat (it said 32 degrees on the weather app but it felt so much warmer), Kurfürstendamm was jampacked and there were lots of people on the sidelines showing their support. My heart swelled three times its normal size. There was so much love. 💖🌈

Berlin Life with a Corgi: Stuff Your Puppy Needs

Once again, this site has taken a back seat due to a major development in our life. As you already know based on the title, we got a dog! After months and months of searching for the perfect pup, we finally found our little Juancho the Corgi. It took ages to find a puppy that was perfect for us and was also available. Puppies get snapped up so quickly here in our side of the world that it felt like I was on another Berlin apartment search.

Afternoon Tea: The Complete Guide

I love me some tea. Even more when it comes with scones, finger sandwiches, and tiny pastries served on elegant, tiered serving stands. Afternoon Tea is something I simply adore doing with my girlfriends. So much so that one of my first articles for Forbes was about it. There’s just something so attractive with this dainty tradition that goes all the way back to the 1800s. It’s so feminine and quintessentially British.

With that said, let me walk you through this tradition based on what I’ve learned through experience as well as research. From its history and the modern-day adaptation that was started by the Mrs. Caroline Astor of the St. Regis in New York.

A Day in Romantic Heidelberg

I don’t think there’s any way for me to truly describe how beautiful Heidelberg is. Just a full day in this city and I was smitten.

If your idea of Germany somehow looks like a scene that came straight out of a fairytale, then this city would be a perfect fit for you. To me, Germany has always been a little more about sexy, gritty Berlin. Heidelberg, however, brought me back to the Grimm Brothers stories I read as a child.
