I love Publika and I notice that a lot of expats do too. I guess it’s because of the fine selection of restaurants, cafes, and shops in that mall. I often go there with the husband for tapas, actually. đ
Recently, another cafe has opened in Publika to add to the place’s list of establishments. Mono Coffee is yet another place for people who want to hang out, enjoy a cuppa, and meet up with friends in the Solaris Dutamas area.

But one thing that’s really nice about the place is the atmosphere. The lighting, the unfinished and slight industrial feel of the cafe also makes it quite relaxing.
The cafe was opened by the Brandker Group â the company behind one of Klang Valley’s most well known cafe chains: Cosans Coffee.
You can say that Mono is Cosan’s hipster brother. With Mono specialising on serving artisan brews. It’s for coffee aficionados and those who actually appreciate the proper process of getting your beans into your cup.
The cafe also has its own house blend dubbed as the “Monian” â a mix Brazil Yellow Bourbon, Guatemala Antigua and Sumatra Lintong coffee beans.
During the launch, we were treated to a demonstration of manually brewing coffee and of making coffee art.
Guess who ended up being the human sacrifice for the demo that day.
That wasn’t too bad for a first timer. Right? Right?!
Made of all things bright and beautiful such as corned beef, grated potato, English muffin, poached egg, and pea sprouts, this dish is made extra special by hollandaise sauce. The perfect breakfast meal. đ
Crispy beef bacon, maple peanut butter, butter syrup, and roasted tomato on top of fluffy pancakes. Personally, I found the pancakes a bit dry and too sweet but the bacon and tomatoes do add a nice touch and a slight savoury taste.
My personal favourite among everything that was served that day. Made with grilled chicken, chick peas, French bean, edamame, feta cheese, cannelini beans, and topped with lemon grain dressing. Normally, I’m not a fan of chick peas.
When I went to Israel in 2008 as a country representative for the Youth Congress on Holocaust Remembrance, I remember going back to Manila and telling my grandma that chick peas (and hummus) are totally not my thing (but I did like the rest of their food!).
However â this time, I just totally loved it. Must be the dressing and the mix of chicken and feta into the salad. Oh, and did I mention it’s a healthy dish too? đ
Will I recommend Mono Coffee to my friends? Yes, for actual coffee lovers out there who don’t mind a bit of a wait for their drink. I loved my iced hazelnut coffee and the flat white I tasted was strong, bold, and had a rich and flavourful aroma. They have great beans in this cafe, I can assure you that.
The food, I’ll have to give them a 7/10 and for the service, a 6/10.
The pancakes and the burger served during the launch are both quite dry and were lacking freshness and it was their salad that actually saved the day. As for the service still needs a bit of improvement. Granted that there were a lot of people present for the opening, service standards must still be obtained.
