Skin & Hair Care: Tansan Magic’s Soda Spa Foam and Sparkling Gelee (Review + Contest)

Tansan-Magic-Spa-Foam-Sparkling-Gelee-Review

As somebody who often writes about beauty, I get approached to try out new products quite often. To be honest, nothing much surprises or even piques my interest these days as things tend to get a bit repetitive in the beauty scene.

There, I said it.

Quite a number of times, I’ve encountered products that seem promising but end up being gimmicky – much to my disappointment. So I end up not writing about them because they’re just a waste of time and effort.

Recently, however, I got to know of Japanese beauty company Tansan Magic. At first, I was quite reluctant due to my said experience with some gimmicky products these past few months that left me in a beauty rut. But knowing that the Japanese do beauty products  and treatments really well, I thought of giving it a go.

I was sent the Soda Spa Foam and the Sparkling Gelee – two products that you can use both on your skin and hair to make them squeaky clean and hydrated. Just two of the things I truly need on a daily basis.

Beauty: Mentholatum Botanics Skin Care

Hello, my loves. Entries have been delayed as – once again – the husband and I have been traveling (typing this on the plane back to KL, to be honest). Alvin had to go to Manila for some meetings at the home office and I decided to tag along so I can do some errands and meet up with my friends. (A post on this later, maybe?)

But enough with the excuses/update and on to the topic of this post!

Before we left for Manila on the last week of February, I was trying out Mentholatum‘s new range of cleansers called Botanics.

Mentholatum, Botanics, Skincare, Beauty, Japanese, Tea Tree, Rose, Jasmine, Foam Cleanser, Cream Cleanser, Hydrating, For Oily Skin, For Dry Skin,

The launch of this new range was quite timely since I have been experiencing some changes when it came to my skin. I’ve always had Sahara-dry skin but recently, I have been having on and off oily days.

I even had yet another break out on my chin in early February. Eeep!

It was right around that time that I decided to try out the Botanics range to see which one will work for me.

Mentholatum, Botanics, Skincare, Beauty, Japanese, Tea Tree, Rose, Jasmine, Foam Cleanser, Cream Cleanser, Hydrating, For Oily Skin, For Dry Skin,

They have quite a wide range of products to deal with every skin type. The cleansers themselves come in three types:

Travel + Beauty + Food: Japan Haul (Plus Sailor Moon goodies!)

Hey, my loves! Here’s a ‘preview’ video of our Japan trip. 😉

I decided to make this (affordable) haul video even though I’m still light years away from actually doing the Japan travel entries for the blog (thanks, backlog!) due to one reason:

The snacks we brought home are in grave danger. From my husband and I, actually. We’ve been eating like crazy! I even failed to mention the different variants of awesome bread and the Star Wars chocolate wafers we brought home. So before we consume everything, might as well just show you guys already. 😀

Do watch all the way till the end as I will be giving shopping tips – where to go for great but affordable finds!

Watch out for my new Sailor Moon collectibles! Yeah, yeah. Once a geek, always a geek. 😉

**Apologies if my makeup in the video is all sweaty and not so fresh. (My powder is creasing on my eyelid creases and my liquid lipstick is actually fading from my mouth’s inner corners! Hihi!) I filmed this after being out and about for hours under the sun and had no time to retouch! I figured you guys will still love me since this is more real anyways. Nobody’s perfect! 😉

You can find the list of products I mentioned after the jump!

Foodie Adventures: Coco Ichibanya’s Spicy Japanese Curry!

Coco Ichibanya, Japanese, Japanese Curry, Japanese Restaurant, Japanese Food, Curry Restaurant, Curry Place, Curry House, Food, Where to Eat in KL, Where to Eat Malaysia,

I’m a huge lover of Japanese food. From sushi, sashimi, ramen, down to all the -dons you can find on the menu. I will gladly gobble them all. But one thing that not a lot of people know about Japanese cuisine is how diverse it is.

They even have their own version of curry (which tastes quite Westernised in my humble opinion)!

Recently, I was invited to try out some of the dishes offered by Coco Ichibanya – Japan’s largest curry restaurant chain – which recently opened their first store here in Malaysia. In this restaurant, it’s all about choices – particularly in how spicy you want your curry to be.

Here’s a quick rundown of some of the dishes we tried!

BEEF YAKINIKU CURRY

Tender and flavourful yakiniku beed served with curry sauce that has the ‘standard’ level of spiciness. Despite the chillies in this photo, I didn’t feel that it was one bit spicy. This curry sauce is for people who love the curry taste but can’t deal with the spice – a.k.a. children or me.

Beauty + Review: Shu Uemura Skin: Fit Foundation (Perfect for Summer!)

Shu Uemura, Shu Uemura Foundation, Skin:Fit, Skin Fit Foundation, Foundation for Oily Skin, Lightweight Foundation, SPF, Long-Lasting Foundation, Breathable Formula, Anti-Ageing, Beauty, Makeup, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Launch, Event

I’ve had my ups and downs with foundation. From not liking it to having to wear the thickest of its kind back when I was doing TV reporting, to finding the ones that I would actually like.

And one thing is for sure: For me to freely fork out money on a foundation, it has to be good to my skin. Nothing too harsh or too heavy (so over that!). Over time, I’ve met a couple who have met the criteria but I’ve often wished for a formula that would also feel lightweight and would let my skin breathe throughout the day. Oh, and it wouldn’t hurt too if it’s long-lasting, right?

Back then, I felt that those things were too much to ask. You can always get a lightweight foundation but you can bet your your toes it won’t be lasting you for more than 4 hours in this humid Southeast Asian weather. You can get a thicker, long-lasting kind but that would just make your skin feel suffocated throughout the day.

So when I got the invite for Shu Uemura‘s launch for their new foundation, I’d have to admit that I had my doubts. A foundation that has all the things I’ve been wishing for? You’ve got to be pulling my leg!

But alas, I am amazed. By now, it’s pretty obvious that I will be raving about this product. But I suggest you read all the way till the end to see what it’s all about. Oh, and you guys do know that I nitpick, right?

Berjaya Hills: Christmas Getaway Pt 2

On Christmas day itself, Alvin and I drove around Berjaya Hills, the complex where the hotel we were staying in – Colmar Tropicale – was located.

I love, love, love the weather in Berjaya Hills! A bit cloudy with just the right amount of chill. Enough for a light jacket or a bit of layering right in the middle of December. And with that kind of weather, it’s so much fun to do some walking/exploring (as opposed to the extremely humid weather in the tropics paired with extra bright sunlight).

We took the car instead of opting for the transport the complex provides as they come in different intervals and will surely take much of our time. We also noticed that the lines waiting for them were pretty long. Holiday = More people.

Japanese Garden

When Alvin told me that we can actually participate in a Japanese tea ceremony near the hotel, I was over the moon. I’m crazy over Japanese history and culture so it was only natural for us to give it a go. 😀

Before all that, #OOTD! 🙂 Jacket is from Balmain (a gift), white cami from Forever 21, jeans from Next Jeans (Brand in the Philippines for teens – yes, I can shop still in teens and kids’ sections. Haha!), and sandals from Forever 21. 🙂

The garden was stunning. Not perfectly manicured but that’s what makes it seem natural – real.
