Relax in the City: SpaSphere (Berlin)

I’m a city girl through and through. People who know me personally can attest to that. I just love the hustle and bustle – the excitement and energy a big city generates. However, I won’t deny that it can get pretty taxing sometimes. The excitement and physical strain of daily living can actually wear you down. Living in Berlin for over a year now, I find that even though this city is not as busy as Manila or Kuala Lumpur, the constant moving around that I do (even in awful weather) can still be exhausting. What really saves the day for me, though, is a spot of relaxation within my week – either at home or at a spa. Germany is big on spa culture and I’ve written about it before. This time, I’ll be telling you about another spa that I recently visited that has left a really good impression with me: SpaSphere.

A Tour of Vienna House Andel’s for Berlin Business Travellers

I first found myself in Vienna House Andel’s during a Diplommatischer Stammtisch event – a monthly gathering for diplomats and their spouses here in Berlin to help us network and make friends. During the first visit, I noticed that the hotel has so much to offer – especially for those travelling to Berlin for business.

The hotel doesn’t need to make much effort to impress. I say this as someone who comes from Asia where hotels tend to be ginormous and grand. From its sheer size, the modern lobby where there’s an Italian APE converted into a coffee bar, the number of rooms, the quality of the restaurants and the views. If you’re planning on holding a business conference or a trade fair, you can even do it all under one roof.

Photo Diary: Berlin Pride / CSD Parade 2018

“My Body, My Identity, My Life” was this year’s theme for Berlin Pride also known as the Cristopher Street Day Parade. It’s an event that I look forward to every summer. Supporting and showing love for the LGBTQ community is one of the causes I truly believe in.

Despite the unforgiving heat (it said 32 degrees on the weather app but it felt so much warmer), Kurfürstendamm was jampacked and there were lots of people on the sidelines showing their support. My heart swelled three times its normal size. There was so much love. 💖🌈

Hi, I’m Alive!

I’m sure you already know this if you’ve been following me on Instagram. You know, that platform with the attractive way of sharing what I’ve been up to without much of the effort. A few keystrokes and voila – sharing is done. While I love it so much (especially Instastories!), I must admit that it’s been making me lazy to put anything up here at Almost Diplomatic since it requires a bit more effort. And we’ve been busy and rather distracted on this side of the world.

Berlin Brunch: Restaurant ROCA (Waldorf Astoria)

Adding to my Berlin Brunch Series is a place my friends and I enjoyed over the weekend – Restaurant ROCA. Located inside the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Berlin, one might be intimidated to give this place a try but I hope this post will convince you otherwise.

Berlin’s Buddy Bears: Beyond the Cute Factor

One of the first things we noticed upon arriving in Berlin was the abundance of bear statues throughout the city. The city does have a bear on its flag but these adorable depictions of the animal seem to be something else – less ferocious and quite adorable. Almost every establishment has one of these two-metre tall bears standing on its hind legs. I was later told that they were called Buddy Bears.

Berlin Brunch: Brunchette (Dînette), Friedrichshain

One of the best things about Berlin is brunch. I love how it’s such a huge thing in this city – especially on weekends. It’s my favourite meal, after all. Breakfast food without having to wake up early plus mimosas? Why, count me in!

So, it’s only fitting that I do a series paying homage to my favourite Berlin weekend tradition. Our first stop? Brunchette by Dînette.
