Beauty: L’OrĂ©al’s New Identity and Products (Prices, First Impressions)

dsc04604-1_zpsmuyztjr8

Makeup is all about fun and self-expression in my book so I’m totally on board with L’OrĂ©al Paris’ new name and brand direction.

L’OrĂ©al is a trusted brand that’s been around for ages (since 1909!). I remember growing up with it and getting my first ever foundation from their brand years ago. So the rebranding actually came as a surprise – a good one. 😉

They’re now known as L’OrĂ©al Paris Makeup Designer. So what’s behind the longer name?

Don’t just wear makeup, design your look!

The brand is actually encouraging everyone who uses their products to exercise their freedom and self-expression using makeup. They want you to actually design your whole look. It’s 2016, after all.

Tucked in a corner by the Clive Steps in London is the entrance to one of my favourite stops during our Europe trip. The inconspicuous door  leading to the Churchill War Rooms’ entrance was already modified to make it easier for people to find it. However, a lot of tourists who visit London still walk past it, not knowing what it actually is and not even noticing it.

The Churchill War Rooms is composed of the Cabinet War Rooms and the Churchill Museum. It is an underground complex built under the Treasury building in London that served as Britain’s command centre during World War II. It is where then Prime Minister Winston Churchill spent most of his time, making the most important decisions and plans back then. The complex was abandoned in August 1945 after WWII and was preserved.

Beauty: Youngblood Cosmetics – Mineral Cosmetics for Flawless Looking Skin

Youngblood, Youngblood Cosmetics, Youngblood Makeup, Beauty, Mineral, Mineral Makeup, Healthy Makeup, Review,

As far as mineral makeup goes, I wasn’t interested in it. Ever. I was given a brand to try once back when I was working for TV and it made me look washed out on camera. Since then, I shunned the idea of going back to it.

Just a couple of years later, I find myself writing about beauty most of the time and the call of mineral makeup is back and a lot harder to resist. Maybe it was time to give it another go?

Enter Youngblood, a makeup line created by aesthetician Pauline Youngblood who has made a career for herself in Hollywood. She often encountered clients with severely traumatised skin (damaged by aesthetic treatments or harsh products) that took months to go back to normal.

Variety.

For people that are going through a healing process for their skin, there are very little makeup options available. So Pauline began working with chemists to come up with a line of cosmetics that are gentle enough even for the most sensitive skin types.

Beauty + Review: Scholl Velvet Smooth Electronic Nail Care System

dsc04228-1_zpseytrjtxz

I’ve been a nail biter from the age of 3 till right about a few months before I turned 24 which basically means I’ve been nail biting most of my life. It was such a nasty habit that was too hard to break and I’m so happy that that phase is over.

I’ve been enjoying pretty nails for over two years now and I gotta say, getting regular mani-pedis is quite addictive. I love seeing how my nails are at the right length, with a straight edge and sides that are gently curved. They look so much prettier now.

Mani-pedis, when done regularly in spas and nail salons, can actually be hard on your wallet. I was enjoying them a lot, to be honest but doing them every weekend was a bit of a stretch on my budget. So last year, I decided to learn how to do my nails on my own.

In this DIY Mani-Pedi journey of mine, I found out that I love how gorgeous my nails look after a good filing. While I do file more than cut, I  still haven’t developed the patience for it.

Seriously. Who loves filing for such a long time? While I enjoy doing my own nails, I do wish that I don’t have to spend so much of my time filing, buffing, and polishing my nails. It takes forever! Oh and in case it isn’t so obvious yet, I’m quite a busy girl!

That’s why when Scholl sent me their new Velvet Smooth Electronic Nail Care System, I was totally excited to try it out.

Beauty + Skin Care: Sorabee Balancing Series

img_6419-1_zpsvtbibtak

Hello, my loves. I’m back with another skin care review cos as you all know by now, I’m pretty obsessed with giving my skin some TLC.

Quite recently, this obsession became a lot more intense as my skin has been acting out. 🙁 From having dry skin for over 2 decades, I’m now dealing with something that’s so new to me – combination skin. I blame the crazy heat and the hormonal rebalancing that’s been going on. Pfft.

Just in time for this sudden skin shift, I was contacted by the people behind Korean skin care brand Sorabee to do a review on their skincare products. I was kind of hesitant at first due to my skin’s current state. However, after being given more information about the range, I changed my mind.

Sorabee‘s Balancing range promised to be suitable for any skin type – something that I’m in dire need of since my skin has been so weird. Sometimes, it’s oily and sometimes, it’s extra dry. Extreme combination skin, anyone? Ugh, can’t wait for this phase to be O-V-E-R.

The range’s products also contain marine collagen extracted from Sea Stars (star fishes) which helps in hydrating  and balancing out combination skin.

Shall I walk you through the products?

Hair: 3 Quick & Easy Hairstyles for Any Event

I get asked a lot how I do my hair. I’m also often told that my updos and hairstyles look as if they’re done by someone from a salon or that I spend so much time doing my hair.

Truth is, my hairstyles are really not complicated. They usually take just a couple of minutes to do and only require minimal effort. I swear.

It took years of practice and getting to know my hair’s texture to be able to whip something up real quick. Especially on days when my curls are just not going the right way or when my husband tells me that I have to accompany him to an important dinner in 15 minutes. #TrueStory

So let me share with you the easiest styles in my hair repertoire. For those who’ve been asking about my braids, you’ll have to subscribe and wait for the next video. 😉

Thanks for watching!

Love,

Carol

Travel: The Imperial War Museum (London)

Travel, London, Imperial War Museum, World War, World War II, World War I, WWII, WWI, What to do in London, Where to go in London, London Travel, Europe, United Kingdom,

On our first day in London, we decided to visit the Imperial War Museum (IWM). We were staying at a small hotel nearby and getting there meant just a three-minute walk. Whoopee! Summer walks in London? Why don’t mind if I do. 😉

IWM London is part of Britain’s Imperial War Museums – a family of 5 establishments in the UK dedicated to keep the lessons of the past alive.

We’ve been to three of the five during this trip and this is the first post on this series. Will be linking the other two here once they are up.

IWM London is housed in the former Bethlem Royal Hospital and has been there since the 30s. It’s quite hard to miss this building along Lambeth Road as right at the front are two, 15-inch guns taken from the HMS Roberts and HMS Ramillies.

The moment you walk inside, it is quite hard not to be impressed. You’ll be welcomed by a Harrier Jump Jet along with a couple more planes, rockets, and bombs. All are hung from the ceiling. We stood there gaping at them for a while.

Ah, delays. They have become a norm in this blog and even on the Youtube channel I started. I would apologise but I’m afraid that won’t change anything so let me just jump right into the post.

We are still on our Europe trip but we will now discuss how we travelled from Paris to London. I’ve mentioned this before although I think I should just do so again: my husband is a huge fan of trains.

So during our trip, we took this mode of transportation whenever we could. Of course, we had to take into consideration the time and cost effectiveness of it whenever we chose between rail and flying. We also booked everything in advance to make sure we were getting good deals.

From Paris’ Gare du Nord station, we boarded the EuroStar that took us to London’s St Pancras station. We took the earliest train (we boarded at 7am) and I was practically sleep walking. However, we do want to make the most of our trip so sleep had to take a backseat during the whole three weeks that we were in Europe.

The journey took 2 hours and 17 minutes and most of it, I spent snoozing. Arrival at St Pancras was a breeze since British border control officials will already process your travel documents in Paris.

Beauty + Review: Let’s Talk Hair Removal – Sumuzu Treatment

**TMI Post. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Also, no prudes please.**

Unwanted body hair has always been the bane of my existence. Okay, I’m exaggerating. But really, unwanted hair removal is something that I’ve dabbled with for years.

Being half-European and half-Asian, I was born with crazy hair growth rates. I came out with a full head of hair and through the years, I realised that it only takes literally months for me to go from having a bob to medium-length hair. I grew my bob into waist-length hair in less than a year, I tell you.

And while I’m happy with the close to bionic hair growth rate I have for my head, I would have to admit that body hair wise, it’s the same. And it’s not as fun.
