Kuala Lumpur is peppered with amazing places to get a good drink and hang out with your friends. Options are way too many and I often find myself in a new place with friends enjoying food as well as a good drink or two.
One of my best friends here in KL, Samia, moved to Canada last month. But before she left, I tagged along with her to a new bar and shisha place in Cheras.
Madhouse KL is located just a stone’s throw away from the new IKEA in Cheras. It attracts mainly a local crowd as this area of the city is not really on the touristy side. Although it’s a place that has lots of restaurants and bars.
Chairs that light up with different colours give the whole place a fun and eclectic vibe. Going up the stairs, you’ll also see beer pong tables, digital dart games, as well as pool tables. A humungous foosball set is also being built.
There’s loud music, something that I prefer not to have when I’m with my friends so we can talk more and I can enjoy my drink in peace. Man, I really am getting old. However, there’s something in Madhouse KL that will make people want to come back. Even if like me, you’re no longer into the whole noisy, party environment.
Madhouse KL actually offers shisha in various flavours. The price range? From MYR13 to MYR18. It’s quite a steal to be honest since shisha can cost you about MYR45 in the joints within KLCC.
Okay, before anyone goes Judge Judy on me, I’m gonna go right ahead and admit it:
I was a smoker for years but I gave it up completely in 2011. I’ve tried a cigarette again in 2014 but it just doesn’t have an appeal to me anymore. The shisha, however, is something that I will still do occasionally with my friends who are into it. One of them is Samia and she grew up in Dubai so it’s part of her culture. I got into it in college when it started getting popular in Manila and it was also friends who were international students from other universities who introduced it to me. I don’t go looking for it but I don’t have a problem with it. I’m not self righteous anyways nor do I pretend to not have vices. I still enjoy drinking with my friends on occasions or days that call for it. I’m a normal human being. 🙂 I do believe in ‘Everything in moderation’ so no need to panic over this. Thanks!
Ok, so now that the long disclaimer is out of the way, back to the review. Madhouse KL has lots of flavours to choose from. You can also mix flavours. Just ask their friendly shisha expert.
Like any decent shisha place, you get your own plastic mouth piece so you won’t have to share with the people you’re with. They also provide each shisha with an attachment that cools the smoke so that it won’t be too harsh on your throat.
That night, Samia ordered a Skittles shisha and later on a lychee. Both were really enjoyable and smooth.
Just look at that expert! Samia’s a self-confessed shisha person and you can read her review on Madhouse KL here.
As for the bar chow, I loved their chicken popcorn. Not too greasy and is crunchy on the outside and had some really tender meat on the inside. I ordered some Somersby Apple Cider which didn’t disappoint as always. It arrived on our table perfectly chilled.
They also serve ice cream. There were three flavours – chocolate, green tea, and coconut. They were ok. Not mind blowing but still a good way to end the night.
If you’re looking for a casual place to chill with a young set of friends who enjoy doing having some beers while smoking shisha, head on over to Madhouse KL. It’s definitely a come as you are joint perfect for a steady, night out.
If you’re backpacking around KL and you’re looking for a place that locals would go to while saving some cash, this is definitely a good option.
Madhouse KL is located at: Pudu Uptown, Jalan Nicholas, Taman Maluri, Cheras
