I’ve been a nail biter from the age of 3 till right about a few months before I turned 24 which basically means I’ve been nail biting most of my life. It was such a nasty habit that was too hard to break and I’m so happy that that phase is over.
I’ve been enjoying pretty nails for over two years now and I gotta say, getting regular mani-pedis is quite addictive. I love seeing how my nails are at the right length, with a straight edge and sides that are gently curved. They look so much prettier now.
Mani-pedis, when done regularly in spas and nail salons, can actually be hard on your wallet. I was enjoying them a lot, to be honest but doing them every weekend was a bit of a stretch on my budget. So last year, I decided to learn how to do my nails on my own.
In this DIY Mani-Pedi journey of mine, I found out that I love how gorgeous my nails look after a good filing. While I do file more than cut, I still haven’t developed the patience for it.
Seriously. Who loves filing for such a long time? While I enjoy doing my own nails, I do wish that I don’t have to spend so much of my time filing, buffing, and polishing my nails. It takes forever! Oh and in case it isn’t so obvious yet, I’m quite a busy girl!
That’s why when Scholl sent me their new Velvet Smooth Electronic Nail Care System, I was totally excited to try it out.

This nail care system comes with the electronic nail pen that works with 1 AA battery. Like the Velvet Smooth Express Pedi, it already comes with the batteries that you need.
It also comes with three heads – one for filing, buffing, and polishing your nails. Each of the heads has a number at the back corresponding to the order of use.
- 1 for filing
- 2 for buffing
- 3 for polishing
Putting them on to the pen is quite easy. Quite similar to how you would change the head of an electronic toothbrush.
The electronic pen comes with two speeds. I suggest you go for the first one when you’re trying it out for the first time as there’s always that danger of going over board with the filing and the buffing.
All in all, it takes around two minutes for me to take my nail from rough and jagged to smooth, even, and shiny.
Verdict
I’m in love with it! Ever since I got my Scholl Velvet Smooth Electronic Nail Care System, I haven’t gone back to slaving my whole afternoon away filing.
Although I do keep an emery board at hand when I need to be a bit more precise with the filing – especially on the edges. To be honest, it takes a few tries to get used to this new product but it did get a lot easier for me by the third nail. 😉
Tip: Set your electronic nail file at a slower speed as it’s a pretty powerful tool for your nails. I only use the faster setting for filing my big toe nails.
When buffing, make sure you don’t buff a single nail for more than 15 seconds so as not to thin it out too much. In my case, I go for 10 seconds max.
Polishing nails is a breeze with this tool and I must admit that I do enjoy this bit the most. 😀

Not bad for a first timer, huh? You can get your own Electronic Nail Care System at Guardian, Watsons, or Lazada. Let me know how it works for you!
