It’s like everywhere I go these days, food trucks are all the rage. From Manila to Kuala Lumpur, the latest buzz among foodies usually involves where to find food trucks that sell awesome food for dirt-cheap prices.

Recently, I was invited to try out Australian MasterChef Adam Liaw’s creations for a new food truck that will be going around Kuala Lumpur starting this June. Of course, I had to say yes to the invitation. I love watching MasterChef every time I catch it on TV. The kiddie edition even features kids who can cook way better than me. And it’s always great to learn from people who know better – even though they’re not really chefs or might be over a decade younger than you. 😉

Adam is the winner of the Australian MasterChef season 2. He gained popularity due to his artistic ability when it comes to food and for his Asian fusion dishes.

He was recently commissioned by Mission Foods, one of the largest producers of corn flour and tortilla wraps to create a menu for the Mission-sponsored food truck.

Adam’s menu consists of the following:

Laksa Fried Chicken Wrap with Pineapple Salsa

My personal favourite! I thought this was going to be too spicy for me but it was actually very pleasant – both in taste and texture. Each piece of chicken is marinated with the special laksa paste that Adam developed and the fresh, pineapple salsa is just divine.

Beef Bulgogi Kimchi Wrap

I don’t eat Kimchi and I was kind of apprehensive to try this at first because of it. However, the strong flavour of the beef, mixed with the tangy, spicy taste of the kimchi was actually a great combo. I have to admit that I ate a lot of this. A lot more than I should. :S

Coconut Prawn Wrap with Spicy Tamarind Mayonnaise

This. Is. Spicy. It even made me tear up a little. So if you’re like me who’s tolerance for spicy food isn’t that high, do take caution before taking a bite off this wrap. I love, love, love the prawns though!

Lamb Shank Rendang with Sweet Radish Achar

One of the perks of moving to Malaysia was Rendang. I just love Chicken/Beef/Lamb/Anything Rendang. This Malaysian dish can make the world go ’round, I tell you. Paired with radish achar, the wrap lets you experience sweet, crunchy, and savoury in one bite.

Roast Carrot Hummus with Avocado Wrap

My least favourite, but I won’t say it’s too bad. I’m not really a fan of hummus so I can honestly say that this wrap just made the ‘okay’ mark for me. I remember going to Israel in 2008 for a conference on the Holocaust. Hummus and I never really got along even then. However, the sweetness of the avocados and the carrots did it make it taste better. The texture of the hummus is still not for me though. 😉 But if you’re a fan of hummus, this is definitely a must-try.

There you have it, Adam’s wraps for Mission Foods’ Little Red Food Truck! The wraps are sold between RM6.99 – RM7.99. Crazy cheap, right? Do try to catch it around the Klang Valley area. I know my husband and I will be keeping an eye out for it. 😉

More later!

Love,

Carol
